Solar Attic Fan Installation in Chicago & North Suburbs
Should you install one? Read this first.
Most contractors will sell you a fan without asking the right questions. We won't.
A solar attic fan only works correctly when three conditions are met:
Your attic floor is properly air-sealed at top plates, can lights, and penetrations
You have R-60 blown cellulose insulation (not just fiberglass batts)
Your soffit vents and baffles are clear and balanced
When all three are in place, the fan pulls outdoor air through open soffits, no risk of pulling conditioned air from your house. Install correctly and the fan delivers active ventilation, reduced moisture, and longer roof life with no electric bill. Install incorrectly and you'll make things worse.

Solar vs. Electric: Which Should You Install?
Already have a working electric fan? Don't replace it yet. When it dies, and it will, replace it with a solar unit, not another electric one.
The 24V Backup Power Option
For heavily shaded roofs or homes with high humidity loads, we offer a low-voltage 24V backup power option (~$950 installed).
A small transformer connects to your home's existing power, and built-in temperature and humidity sensors trigger backup operation only when attic conditions cross set thresholds, minimal grid draw, only when needed.
Solar-only installs typically require no permit. The 24V backup option may require a permit and additional install fee depending on your local authority and whether a nearby power source is available.

The 10-Year Warranty Difference
Most companies install your fan and hand you the manufacturer's warranty. When it breaks, you ship the part back, wait, and pay another contractor's labor to install the replacement.
Green Attic includes a 10-year warranty: free repair or replacement on all fan components. Call us. We come out. We fix it or replace it. No shipping. No second contractor. Final coverage confirmed in your written estimate.

Frequently Asked Question
How much does it cost to install a solar attic fan in Chicago and the North Suburbs?
The 24V backup power option typically costs around $950 installed, when applicable. Final pricing and scope are confirmed in your written estimate after Green Attic inspects the attic and roof.
Is my attic a good candidate for a solar attic fan?
If your attic is not properly air-sealed or does not have balanced intake and exhaust ventilation, a powered fan can create pressure or airflow problems. That is why Green Attic starts with an inspection before selling the fan.
Do solar attic fans work at night?
For heavily shaded roofs or homes with high humidity loads, Green Attic may recommend a low-voltage 24V backup power option. This uses a small transformer connected to the home’s existing power, with built-in temperature and humidity sensors that trigger backup operation only when attic conditions cross set thresholds.
What is the 24V backup power option?
The 24V backup power option is not a battery backup and not an AC/DC inverter. It is designed for sensor-triggered backup operation with minimal grid draw, only when needed. Permit requirements and install fees depend on your local authority and whether a nearby power source is available.
Will a solar attic fan compromise my roof warranty or increase leak risk?
Whether a solar attic fan affects your roof warranty or leak risk depends on roof condition, roofing material, ventilation layout, and manufacturer requirements. Green Attic confirms the installation approach in your written estimate.
