What is healthy home, happy family in your company tagline?
A healthy home can be categorized by several things we interact with in our home. Foods we eat, cleaning solutions we use on our surfaces, and a host of other categories in relation to our living experience. Here at Green Attic Insulation we are focused on the air quality of your home, your comfort, and energy efficiency.
The attic is one part of the home often described as “out of sight, out of mind.” We often ask jokingly to the client during the inspection, “how often do you go up into the attic?” knowing the answer is almost always an emphatic “ Never”. The attic is often a source of mold growth and rot due to moisture, poor ventilation and the resulting condensation feeding mold.
Many companies specialize in mold treatment, but we have found, they are not treating the cause of the mold. We find the same poor ventilation, the same bath fans venting into the attic, and the result is returning mold within the next year or two. We specialize in diagnosing and treating the original cause of the mold. The same treatment often solves problems with efficiency and comfort.
You live a busy life with work, children or grandchildren, social obligations, vacations, medical emergencies, schedules and other priorities. Sometimes, one of the last things you’re concerned with is energy efficiency. It’s time to talk about what we are doing to improve our own home, neighborhood and city.
When you are considering your options, you should also consider whether upgrading your windows is necessary. Also, another option is whether or not your doors and windows are sealed properly. When we begin an energy assessment we use an infrared thermal imaging camera. This finds cold and hot spots within the home. Without proper insulation the heated or cooled air, escapes through the walls and attic.
You’d be amazed at how many people are excited after they’ve seen a vivid image of where they are missing insulation and how it directly affects heat loss they experience in the winter or heat gain in the summer. Therefore, when your home is not properly insulated you are subjected to, hot or cold rooms, chilly and annoying drafts, cold walls and floors, water leaks in the attic (water has a much easier time finding its way into a poorly-insulated home than a well insulated one), ice dams on the roof and dangerously large icicles hanging from your home, last but not least… MICE, OTHER RODENTS AND BUGS (critters can enter through tiny crevices and holes around doorways and windows)
However, when you properly insulate your home you can avoid those nuisances altogether. In the grand scheme of things, you are doing yourself, community and your planet a great service. “If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.” Mahatma Gandhi.
By changing the way you view your personal health to include the health of your home, you too will have a healthy home and happy family!
