Challenges
โข Existing crawl space likely lacked a proper moisture barrier, allowing moisture to permeate the living space above.
โข Batt insulation in the crawlspace may have been compromised by moisture, reducing its effectiveness.

Solution Provided
Green Attic Insulation recommended a comprehensive crawlspace encapsulation solution for Ellie's home in Naperville, IL. This multi-step approach addressed both moisture control and insulation needs:
โMoisture Barrier Installation (1200 sq. ft.): A high-quality, durable moisture barrier was installed on the crawlspace floor to prevent moisture from entering the living space above. This creates a vapor barrier and helps to control humidity levels.
โClosed Cell Spray Foam Insulation (720 sq. ft., R-22.5): Three inches of closed-cell spray foam insulation were applied to the crawlspace walls. Closed-cell spray foam has excellent insulating properties and is resistant to moisture, making it ideal for crawl space application.
โBatt Insulation Removal (500 sq. ft.): Any existing batt insulation in the crawlspace was removed. Wet or damaged batt insulation loses its effectiveness and can contribute to mold growth.

Benefits:
โImproved Moisture Control:
The new moisture barrier helps to prevent moisture from entering the living space, reducing the risk of mold growth, wood rot, and other moisture-related problems.
โEnhanced Insulation:
Closed-cell spray foam provides superior insulation compared to traditional batt insulation, leading to improved comfort and energy savings throughout the year.
โIncreased Energy Efficiency:
By addressing moisture and improving insulation, the crawlspace encapsulation project will contribute to a more energy-efficient home for Ellie.
